Why a gargoyle you ask? And where did the inspiration come from?

When my boys were little they loved to watch Disney movies. In fact, the whole family were more than a little Disney obsessed!

One of their favourite films was The Hunchback Of Notre Dame which was loosely based on the famous novel by Victor Hugo.

As usual, the film was the whole Disney package: all singing and dancing, colourful, but with a dark theme, set in the famous French Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris.

My boys loved the gargoyles who protected the cathedral, keeping demons and evil forces away; those gargoyles would come to life whenever Quasimodo was around; they were his friends and guardians.

Having visited the cathedral myself, I found it ever so eerie and mysterious; and the gargoyles looked particularly scary. So, as you can already vividly imagine, I wanted my gargoyle to look grotesque!

An added bonus? This would suit Beth, our SFX-supremo, down to the ground as we both share a love of anything dark, scary and gory.

Once the idea was firmly formed in my head and transferred to my mood board, I set about finding the right prosthetics and paint to complete the look.

I sent Beth a photo of the mood board ~ boy was she excited to get stuck into this latest prosthetics project!

There was a feeling of excitement in the studio as the bald cap was fitted; bit by bit my face was covered in prosthetic pieces, painted and then shaded, before the final flourish of fitting my wings. Only then was I allowed to look in the mirror.

WOW!!! The image staring back at me was totally terrifying - it didn't even remotely resemble me - where was I? Jack was thrilled with the transformation and Adrian was shocked; however, my dog wouldn't come anywhere near me! I think we can safely say ‘job done’! Or as Lady P is currently chanting - ‘mission accomplished’!

I was a gargoyle, ready to protect and guard the magazine from evil forces.
