Welcome to Issue 127 ~ Autumn 2026: Greed.
This month’s issue explores the theme of Greed inspired by the hair dressing legend, that is Hilary Jones, while she worked her magic on my desperately overdue root touch up!
As we waxed lyrical about life in general, I casually quipped that money was the root of all evil – only for Hilary to interject that her dad always maintained greed was the root of all evil. It completely stopped me in my tracks because she was bang on the money: greed is the root of all evil.
Greed is a selfish and intense desire to have more…more money, wealth, food, possessions, power…more than a person actually needs or deserves. It is an excessive urge that more often than not focuses on personal gain at the expense of others, and what is becoming blatantly more apparent these days is that the people with lots of money want more power, and the people with power keep making lots and lots of money, fuelling their greed and their over-inflated egos!
Greed is also one of the seven deadly sins ~ a group of core vices in Christian tradition that lead to further immoral behaviour.
Everybody wants more in life; however, there’s a normal healthy desire to better ourselves and live a good and fulfilling life, and then there’s the opposite end of the spectrum where the greedy and evil megalomaniacs dwell ~ no names mentioned, but you know the type! ~ the people who want to own everything, take over everything and rule the world like the evil Empire in Star Wars or Dr Evil in Austin Powers.
Our greediness is determined by how much we actually want, and ultimately comes down to that moral dilemma: exactly how far are we prepared to go in order to achieve it?!
