Menopausal Hotties - Oops, don’t blame me, blame it on the Oestrogen
The hottest topic in town: Menopausal Hotties...
Hotties - you may have observed we are storming ahead through our menopausal ABCs.
This month the focus is on the letter ‘O’.
Oops, don’t blame me, blame it on the Oestrogen - the motherload of the female sex hormone world.
Ok, let’s get cracking (not literally), as we take a closer look at Oestrogen also known as estrogen (so good they named it twice). This is the main female sex hormone responsible for the reproductive system and adorning us hotties with our female sex characteristics.
Did you know that there are three androgynous Oestrogens? Estrone, Estradiol and Estriol. Each one impacts us slightly differently.
This dynamic trio (or unholy trinity, depending on your viewpoint!) all have a vital role to play in this game called life, but with varying degrees of dominance, pre- and post-menopausal, changing the hormonal balance, hence the term ‘The Change’.
They are a bit akin to the three bears from the Goldilocks story. One is too soft, one is too hard and one is just right, but let’s get real - we need all three for balance in varying degrees. Hopefully you won’t be too much of an Orso (bear) with a sore head after reading this Ode to our ovulating odyssey...
Oy oy hotties, hold on to your Bridget Jones’s big pants as we delve a little deeper in our observations into the Oestrogen trio. Try not to get too sidetracked with orgasmic thoughts about Mr Darcy...
#1 Estrone (oestrone)
This is one of the weakest of the three and unlike the other two this one is produced by the ovaries. It does however become the predominant one after menopause in postmenopausal women.
#2 Estradiol (oestradiol)
This is the predominant strongest one of our trio of estrogens pre-menopause, regulating most of the female body functions such as hot flushes, vaginal changes and bone density, anxiety etc. However, after the menopause it becomes the least prominent.
#3 Estriol (oestriol)
A weaker steroid hormone than estradiol, regulates hot flushes, vaginal changes, collagen, and bone density, but again, this decreases post-menopause.
Ooh la la hotties, we can agree that oestrogen is one powerful ménage á trois.
When oestrogen hormones decline in varying levels it can feel like the hormone vampires have paid an unwelcome visit, draining us of these vital hormones. Fear not hotties, we are resourceful women who, despite this, can still take control without a string of garlic or a silver bullet in sight.
Research suggests that foods/diets, supplements, HRT therapies and exercise can all have a positive influence on hormone balance. Good news, as this could be a game changer.
Remember. One size doesn’t fit all (a bit like my wardrobe, full of various sizes for my yo yo body), we may need a little trial and error until you find out what works best for you.
Oh me oh my gorgeous Hotties, it’s time to hand the reins back to you. Take charge of your destiny, there are no obstacles you can’t navigate around, although be mindful not to jump over too many hurdles - don’t go breaking a leg now, as we can be a little bit more clumsy these days, along with an increased risk of developing osteoporosis (yes that’s right - more potential side effects of declining oestrogen).
Time to say bye bye for now, so it’s Over and Out from me until the next instalment of our Hottie’s ABCs.
Stay fabulous. Stay cool and stay Outstanding.
Love you hotties.
