Hallowe’en is our favourite time of year here at emmaheaven.com as it gives us even more of a licence to go totally over the top (not that we exactly play it safe or low key the rest of the year), but in October we get to ramp and vamp things up, by going all ghoulishly gory and scary, play with fake blood, and LOTS of SFX makeup.

This sets Beth’s pulse racing faster than Dracula’s at a blood bank, as she loves nothing more than creating a visually striking and unique look. Plus, she loves a challenge.

Creature Of The Deep was Beth’s idea. She was inspired by Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean and the sea creatures on board Davy Jones’ locker.

The shoot involved lots of paint, glitter, latex, fake blood, shells and rice! Yep, you read that right - rice. It makes an excellent substitute for maggots. And as much as we like to be authentic or ‘suffer for our art’, there was no way on earth was I going to allow Beth to put maggots on my face.

Kris was in his element when he got his hands on the hair props - especially the octopus! He went wild with the backcombing and I was almost asphyxiated by the amount of hairspray, coloured hairspray and glitter which was liberally sprayed on in our quest for another hair-raising creation.

Good job we’re not overlooked, as we don’t have any smelling salts to hand. So there I was, sat in the makeup chair with an octopus entwined in my enormous multi-coloured hair, awash with seashells, liberally placed in between the octopus’ tentacles, and a face full of paint, latex, blood, shells and rice. Just another standard shoot at the studio then!

It was time to get the show on the road and do Hallowe’en #TeamHeaven style...
