Welcome to Destination #FH Avenue

This is the place for businesses to be, and to be seen. This month I am shining the spotlight on these fabulous businesses…

Back On Track 2Luisa Davies has been into fitness from a young age - school sports and swimming saw her interest in the subject grow - and so she moved into personal training and fitness instructing.

During this time, Luisa was diagnosed with cancer and whilst enduring, gruelling chemotherapy sessions, she was encouraged by her aunt to go back to college to study Sports Therapy & Injury Management, so she would be able to help others suffering with illness and injury.

Luisa has built her business Back On Track Sports Therapy very quickly with a determination that is to be admired.

Back On Track Sports Therapy aids with the rehabilitation of injury through a process of assessment, examination and the relevant treatment. It is designed to restore the individual back to an optimal state of health, allowing the body to function at full capacity.

With requests from local sporting clubs to help out with a regular stream of injuries coming in - this spurred Luisa into management and prevention of injury in sport - leading to more requests from clubs for her to work with them, including the Ospreys rugby club.

Luisa’s studies have continued over a four year period, where she has achieved Levels 1 to 4, and up to degree level. As part of her continual professional development, she continues to study and learn new skills. She is currently working on Level 5 Sporting Injuries.

Some of Luisa’s treatments include, Deep Tissue Massage for full body, upper body or lower body, Electro Therapy and Kinesiology.

Luisa’s philosophy is simple - “Life is too short”. Fitness was a long-held passion, but it took becoming ill to make her sit up, take control of her life, and go for something that was dear to her heart.

Luisa’s dreams include, becoming a physio at the Millennium Stadium and travelling to the next Rugby World Cup in Japan, and has submitted her CV for consideration. She has already worked with the rugby team from Fiji at this year’s Rugby World Cup, and has a contract with the boxer Chris Jenkins, whom she also sponsors.

Her business is very successful and thriving - it goes from strength to strength, but as she says, “ I like to keep up to date with the latest developments and refresh my approach, so that both I and my clients don’t get stuck in a rut, and get the most out of the treatments.”

Luisa has just returned from Las Vegas, where she has secured a new groundbreaking treatment machine, which will be available from January.

She is very driven, wants to achieve more, and strives to be different. She has a thirst for knowledge and is continually improving herself and her skills, and will be returning to college to achieve her Masters in Rehabilitation of Injuries.

Luisa, you are one determined ‘pair of stockings’! I love visiting you, even though it can be a painful experience - I can honestly say I don’t know if the pain is from the treatments (‘no pain, no gain!’) or from laughing so much at your outrageous stories! xxx

Mark BowdenBy day he runs the National Hospitality Academy, and by night he is a magician and stage mentalist!

nationalhospitalityacademy.co.uk is a one stop shop for all staff training, from Food Hygiene to the Personal Licence Course and Health and Safety.

Mark has grown this business from scratch, with no investment, teaching himself everything he needed to know through e-learning - funded by magic....

Mark left school and started an apprenticeship in joinery at a local factory, but hated it! And so he left and got a job as a barman at a nightclub in Blackpool. After two months he became a trainee manager and worked his way to the top with Northern Leisure. During this time he even built his own nightclub.

I wanted to know - what lead him into the world of magic?

Mark was asked by his mum to support a charity event she was involved in. While there, his attention was caught by a man performing a simple magic trick. This man shared the secret of how he did it with Mark, who then went on to show it off to everyone who crossed his path. And that was it - he was hooked!

A visit to the JB Magic shop in Blackpool - where they taught him a variety of card tricks - and Mark found a real hunger to learn more, teaching himself from magic DVD’s.

His big break came when the Mayor of Blackpool invited him to perform at the Lord Mayor’s Ball. Mark put a small act together, and from there he has never looked back.

Mark moved to Wales in 2010, where he knew nobody but wanted to be a somebody - and magic gave him just that.

Mark pushed himself, learning new skills and is now an award-winning Close Up and Stage Entertainer, who specialises in entertaining at a range of corporate and private events both internationally and across the UK. Personal highlights for Mark include performing for Manchester United, FIA Awards, Prince Charles and Top Gear’s The Stig (although Mark did say he wasn’t the most talkative..).

With a diary crammed full of bookings through word of mouth recommendations, Mark doesn’t need to battle for gigs. His shows are spectacular - I have to say I wasn’t much of a magic fan - I’ve never watched Dynamo or Derren Brown (Mark’s favourite magician) - as I didn’t see the appeal. However, having seen Mark perform live - well let’s just say I was totally blown away and left in shock and disbelief wondering “how did he do that?!”

I ask Mark - what’s the dream? And I am surprised by his humble answer. He doesn’t want to do magic full time - he is happy with his life and the magic business ticks over nicely, which he says, earns enough money - and ladies, boy will you be impressed with this! He wants to keeps his lovely wife Helen in shoes - what a man! Eat your heart out Cinderella!!

Mark says magic is a godsend - a hobby that opens doors. He loves the danger and challenge of magic and is always looking to create the next ‘miracle’ to amaze and bewilder us “muggles’ (non-magic folk/Harry Potter).

All this craziness coexists with his ‘normal life’ creating a business empire with The National Hospitality Academy.

My favourite quote from Mark during this interview in which he enthralled me with his life story and dazzled me with his card tricks was - every year he says to his wife Helen - just like ‘Del Boy’ Derek Trotter from Only Fools & Horses - “this time next year - we’ll be millionaires”.

Mark I truly hope you are - as you are one of the nicest, most genuine people I’ve ever met.
Good luck - you deserve it.

Lovely Jubbly. XXX
