**The Terrible Twos**

graffiti headline photoIt’s the magazine’s second birthday (Happy Birthday emmaheaven.com); and as we enter ‘The Terrible Twos’ it’s time to embrace the tantrums, mayhem and test the limits of life. And in our case - fashion!

I really dislike the way so-called ‘experts’ dictate to women how they should look and feel, especially older women. And I can feel a bit of a toddler tantrum coming on...

If I want long hair, then I’ll have long hair.

Don’t tell me I’m too old to wear sequins and glitter - if I want to shine and sparkle like a Vegas showgirl or a Christmas tree that’s my prerogative.

Redheads shouldn’t wear certain colours - says who?

As long as you feel good and like what you see when you look in the mirror that’s all that matters - whether it’s this season or not! Their opinions don’t pay your dry cleaning bills!

Dear so-called experts,

Get over yourselves and get a life.
Stop being an insufferable know-it-all!
If we want your opinion, then we’ll ask for it. But don’t hold your breath. Then again...
In the meantime please stick your opinions where the sun don’t shine!

Yours, on behalf of us gals everywhere
Emma
Age: forever young!

So with this little tantrum out of the way, it’s now time for the fun to begin...

As it’s our second birthday the starting point was a birthday party outfit - easy peasy! A sparkly OTT sequinned maxi skirt by Saylor with a gorgeous, white tiered, flouncy off-the-shoulder top by Endless Rose.

This birthday outfit needed a birthday hat, so I headed on over to Etsy where I discovered the talented ChikiBird’s Hat Studio - self styled ‘little hat, big attitude’ - in Wisconsin, USA and bought a decadent mini Mad Hatter top hat.

Covered in rainbow coloured flowers and soft white feathers it makes me feel ever so slightly naughty and just a little bit mad!

As I’d decided to run riot with the colour for this outfit, a scarf was a must to complete the colour-fest! Again my new BFF (best fashion friend!) Etsy came up trumps with FeltedArtToWear in Loughborough, UK, who made me the most colourful and eye-catching felted scarf with a huge flower centrepiece.

We had the naughty, now for some nice. A cute and cuddly teddy bear wicker handbag by the fabulous designer Kate Spade fitted the brief perfectly.

Outfit and accessories complete, we now needed cake! But not just any old cake. I commissioned the Raspberry Cakery to make a giant colourful cupcake which would be perfect for a two year old, complete with a giant figure ‘TWO’ on top. And boy oh boy did they deliver!

Confession Time: we could have waited for the shoot to finish before cutting the cake. Ahem, I’m only a teensy bit ashamed to say we demolished it! Resistance was futile - it tasted divine!!! I guess it turned into an impromptu #CakeSmash - the pooches are still finding cake crumbs!

Last but by no means least, any self-respecting two-year old’s party needs balloons.
This is where I drafted in Rianon Jones from RiCreations to create a balloon masterpiece for the photo shoot’s backdrop. I’ll hand you over to Rianon to tell you all about her ballooning (ad)venture!

**Rianon Jones**

rianon jonesrianon balloonsHello lovelies!

Way back in March, I sat down with Emma to talk about the launch of my new company 'RiCreations'. At the same time Emma challenged me to 'RiCreate' (see what I did there?!) a quirky balloon arch for the second birthday issue!

Armed with Pinterest, YouTube and balloons for inspiration, I sat down and researched balloon arches.

I tasked my father-in-law with making some solid columns to support the balloons. I couldn’t wait to start on this piece, relishing the opportunity to unleash my creativity on this novel commission.

The day of the photo shoot arrived - balloon blower at the ready and more balloons than you could shake a stick at! I hope you'll agree I smashed my first #TeamHeaven challenge!

After nursing tender fingers from tying soooo many balloons I am now ready for Emma's next challenge...

Nails: Created and painted by Rebecca Clark of Irresistible Beauty.

Here’s how Rebecca created my ‘Terrible Twos’ nails.

**Rebecca Clark**

Rebecca ClarkHi lovelies

First and foremost.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY emmaheaven.com!

I can't believe it was just over two years ago Emma came to tell me all about her ideas, and look at how well the magazine is doing! And over 30,000 followers on Facebook - congrats!

This month I was super excited to get my hands on Emma's hands! The brief was “something that people would say 'I'm too old for that'.”

This was music to my ears.

In the nail business, we often suggest a colour to a lady of ‘more mature years’, and they say ”oh I can't, I'm too old for that colour.” Whaaat? No one is ever too old for anything ladies!!

To celebrate the magazine’s second birthday, Emma wanted a two year old’s set of nails. Embrace your inner child!! Yay!

Immediately I thought pink, orange and yellow, with glitter obvs!

After shaping and base coating Emma's nails, I painted on a vibrant pink,’ Ecstasy Ombréd’ with a lush coral 'Tropix'.

Over the top I sprinkled a neon pink 'Cindy' and orange glitter 'Darcy'.

As if this wasn't enough colour and sparkle, I applied some bright yellow flower transfers on every nail! Definitely the icing on this two year old’s cake!

Living proof that us ladies can have whatever colour or design takes and tickles our fancy; whatever age we are, we will have it, and still own it!

See you next month xxx

hairHair: Created and styled by Kris Brown from Pimped Up Pins hair salon.

Here is how Kris - who stepped in at the 11th hour, as Hilary was poorly - created those wicked pigtails.

**Kris Brown**

kris brownHi,

This month we did simple yet effective bouffant braided pigtails.

Working with the party theme, we kept the style more textured and trendier, avoiding sleek and perfect hair.

I sectioned to the top and back combed each section while using IQ volumizing dust to mould the back comb into a beehive effect, making sure I didn’t smooth it out too much as I wanted to keep Emma’s hair unruly.

I then split the back down the centre of the hair creating pigtails which I plaited on both sides.
When I had finished this stage, securing each braid with a clear elastic band, I pulled apart each section of the plaits to give volume and thickness, giving a more fashionable twist to a classic style.

Finishing off, Emma’s fringe section was split centrally and smoothed using Cloud 9 irons, blending the beehive and braids together.

I went crazy with one of my favourite products - Hard Head hairspray from the Tigi range - teasing and manipulating the hair until I was satisfied with the end result.

I was in my element doing this - scruffy, tousled, messy hair is my forte - combined with some naughty conversation and delicious cake, what more could I ask for?

Kris Brown xx

Thanks Kris for showing us that an ‘old girl’ can wear pigtails if she wants and thanks for saving the day!

makeupMakeup: Created and applied by Jenna Kelly.

Here’s how Jenna interpreted this month’s look.

**Jenna Kelly**

JennaThe terrible twos... My brief for this month’s shoot was "stick two fingers up to anyone who says be age appropriate!"

...and that we did!

I had something totally different planned for this month’s glam, but when I arrived, saw the hair, the outfit, the balloons, I did a total U-turn and quickly adapted to the overall look!

The end result for this month was a pink sparkly eye and a glossy iridescent pink lip! Yep that's right... two fingers up to the "age appropriate oldies" critics!

Even though this was a fun glam, we still wanted it to look pretty and wearable, the key makeup item being the new Rose Gold palette from Huda beauty. This palette is LIFE!!!... and enabled me to give Emma a sparkly eye without going hell for leather on the glitter.

We smoked out the eye a little with some gorgeous warm mauve tones to add depth and added an insane lip gloss to Emma's lips to finish. This gloss was one of her own and seriously amps up any colour it's used on top of.

Moral of the story... who cares!?

If you want to try something, try it!

If you want to wear pink glittery eye shadow, you can! Do it!

It's all about quality products and calmer colours... ditch the neon for rose and ditch the glitter for shimmer!

Love

Your creativity and commitment never ceases to amaze me!

This shoot was #TeamHeaven sticking two fingers up to the so-called ‘experts’ who love to tell us women how we should dress, look and feel! So ladies - ignore the bullshit - dig out the sequins, the fizz - and get rid of The Fear...

Enjoy...
