It's All About Me

Some people wear clothes because they have to. They get up, put something on and off they go.

I love the way clothes make me feel - the confidence they give me - the way they can reflect or transform my mood.

I think with age comes confidence - when you start to feel comfortable in your own skin - when you don’t really care what other people think - when you start to dress for you.

I want to live longer by being fit and healthy and looking after myself.

I care about my appearance and want to make the most of what Mother Nature gave me.

I have a lifelong interest in fashion and beauty and I surround myself with fabulous friends who have come with me on this incredible journey.

Life’s too short to not glam up and party and I want to share my passion for fashion with you... so welcome to my world.

This month began with my son Jack’s 21st birthday. To kickstart the celebrations we held a family dinner at Mamma Mia’s - a popular Italian restaurant in Swansea. They do a wonderful lasagne and the garlic bread is to die for. And if you like your pizza by the metre, then this is *the* place to go!

The following night we partied hard on Wind Street. The night began with cocktails at Revolution, before moving on to a VIP booth at Peppermint and ending the night with a naughty kebab and chips. (Oops - sorry Tara I forgot to mention that!).

Talking of Tara - we have incorporated water workouts into our training sessions which have turned out to be hard work but a lot of fun. Especially when she brings her inflatable octopus along. It’s like training with a big kid!!

My shoulder injury persists., Thankfully Tara recommended Simon Webborn, an osteopath at Swansea Clinic of Natural Medicine. swanseaclinic.co.uk
Simon uses a combination of massage, manipulation and acupuncture. I still cannot believe he persuaded me to try the acupuncture. I have had a needle phobia since I was a child. Mercifully it was quite painless.

This month I had a full body massage with the lovely Lauren at Irresistible Beauty Salon. It was so relaxing - I didn’t want it to end!

My nails needed to serve a dual purpose - a charity event closely followed by my Halloween Maleficent photo shoot. I picked the polish and several different holographic glitters and let Lucy work her magic.

The charity event was ‘All the Fun of the Fur’ - an evening to raise funds for The Pettifor Trust (an animal welfare charity), at Sketty Hall, Swansea. It was organised by the fabulous Marianne Pettifor and Denise Davey. The dress code was ‘Aristocats’, which Denise informed me was the chance to pull out the feathers, (faux) fur and bling!!!
Don’t you just love the chance to dress up?

A visit to Hilary in Pimped Up Pins was needed - so armed with pictures of my dress - she set to work. First she put in some fabulous red highlights creating multi-tonal hair. Then she constructed a big bouffant, with the remainder of my hair swept to the side in a tumble of curls. Another hair masterpiece from Hilary.

Although my dress was fabulous, I wasn’t completely happy with it. Something was missing. It needed filling out. I asked the dressmaker from Amy’s Fashion and Design Ltd to make a tulle underskirt and fit it to the dress. And what an amazing job she did as it totally transformed the dress. (I just hope the designer never finds out!)

Jenna Kelly applied my makeup for the evening. I was totally bowled over by the look she achieved. I now have her on speed dial for all future events!

And a special thank you to Flowers By Arrangement who made me the most beautiful wrist corsage. It was a vibrant cerise rose and lots of foliage dotted with diamantes. I was truly bedazzled!

The evening itself was amazing. We were greeted by two VERY large fluffy animals. Very different! The food was delicious and the drinks flowed. The ladies all looked fabulous and even the men scrubbed up well!

Over the course of the evening, we were captivated by close-up magician and mind-reader, Mark Bowden. He was amazing. I still cannot believe half of what I saw. How does he do it?

The entertainment was hilarious. Local comedy burlesque dance acts - Boris and Doris von Sneeze and Burly Chassis - brought their unique ‘saucy seaside-postcard style’ to the night, and Cardiff-based Rob Hughes - an extremely funny comedian. I haven’t laughed so much in a long, long time.

And most importantly, lots of money was raised for a great charity.

My photo shoot this month was a childhood fantasy turned into reality. I’ve always wanted to dress up as Disney villain Maleficent. And with Halloween approaching, it was the perfect opportunity.

This was a particularly special shoot for me; it was the first shoot I’ve done with my husband Adrian as the photographer. And I think you will agree that he did an incredible job - the photos are spectacular.

Makeup was created and applied by Jenna Kelly MUA - and what a look she pulled off. I was so impressed that I have invited Jenna to do the makeup on all future shoots. You can discover the beautiful looks she creates, every month in Love It! Rock It! Own It! And find out more about Jenna and her successful business in Destination #fh Avenue.

The super talented Rhys Warlow was on hand to capture the mayhem and madness on film. And he even had his own fun when he got to play around and get creative with the VFX and CGI. He truly brought Maleficent to life. Enjoy his fabulous production in Lights...Camera...Action... And read all about Rhys, his work and ambitions in Destination #fh Avenue.

After such an eventful few weeks, it was great to have a break to catch up with friends and family.

My old school friend Nicola Perring-Day has recently opened Namas Day Holistic Therapies and Massage in Swansea and invited me along to have a look. It was lovely to catch up with Nicola; and her treatment rooms are so calm and relaxing. I immediately booked myself in for a deluxe hot stone, full body massage. I can’t wait to go and tell you all about it...

Until next time...
Don’t be a stranger...
