It's All About Me
Some people wear clothes because they have to. They get up, put something on and off they go.
I love the way clothes make me feel - the confidence they give me - the way they can reflect or transform my mood.
I think with age comes confidence - when you start to feel comfortable in your own skin - when you don’t really care what other people think - when you start to dress for you.
I want to live longer by being fit and healthy and looking after myself.
I care about my appearance and want to make the most of what Mother Nature gave me.
I have a lifelong interest in fashion and beauty and I surround myself with fabulous friends who have come with me on this incredible journey.
Life’s too short to not glam up and party and I want to share my passion for fashion with you... so welcome to my world.
I am writing this from my sunlounger on a powdery white beach in Mauritius, looking out at the beautiful turquoise sea; with the sun blazing down and a steady supply of delicious cocktails to get me through this arduous task - it’s a tough life! What a trooper. Or given this month’s theme, maybe that should be ‘what a Stormtrooper’...
But more about Mauritius later.
This month started backwards for me. I usually finish the month with a photo shoot, but with my upcoming holiday, everything had to be re-jigged. So we began the month with a photo shoot - which was inspired by the new Star Wars movie - The Force Awakens.
My household is Star Wars crazy, and my son Jack is the proud owner of a Stormtrooper costume, not to mention a small arsenal of Star Wars weapons, including blasters and lightsabers.
There was a lot of excitement for this shoot - the chance to really have some fun. Jenna had the creative licence to get artistic with sci fi inspired makeup. Hilary got to conjure me up some mega Princess Leia buns. Rhys and Adrian were able to play about with CGI, special effects and lightsabers. Who says you’re too old to play with lightsabers!?!?! Jack dressed up in his Stormtrooper costume - a dream come true for him. And me - armed and fabulous - I finally got to wear my ‘Preen’ Star Wars dress which had been hanging in my wardrobe forever. Or as my husband calls my wardrobe, the ‘Death Star’!
With the music pumping and truckloads of Domino’s pizza to stop Darth Vader in his tracks - we had the most fun evening and produced some incredible shots which you will find in Love It! Rock It! Own It! And you can see the phenomenal video, filmed and edited by Rhys in Lights...Camera...Action...
The following week was the launch of Pimped Up Pins’ new salon on Llangyfelach Road in Swansea.
The fabulous owner - Kris Brown - hosted a wonderful evening at his stunning new salon. There was plenty of fizz (obviously!), which was polished off by his lovely guests and his talented team. I almost didn’t recognize Dan with his fabulous new blond hair!
The salon looks very sophisticated but retains the eclectic, electric party atmosphere I fell in love with.
The staff always greet you with a friendly welcome - and they always remember who you are, which is a personal touch I love.
A visit to Pimped Up Pins is an experience not to be missed - it’s guaranteed to put you in a good mood and feeling that you want to carry on and party. I always come away from there feeling and looking on top of the world.
To Kris and his team - I wish you the best of luck (not that you need it!) And I hope the business continues to grow, because you deserve all the success that you get. xxx
That same week ‘Beaujolais Day’ arrived. Only one place to go with my friends - Coast Italia on High Street in Swansea.
After a few cheeky bottles of fizz, we devoured the delicious Italian food with dishes including Parma ham, lasagne and carbonara. The main event for me was the chef’s famous Nutella cake - simply wow!
The atmosphere in Coast Italia is always wonderful, the decor a rustic chic and with the music playing in the background, it creates a lovely ambience.
A great time was had by all - and how did the Beaujolais Nouveau taste? I have absolutely no idea! Despite it being Beaujolais Day, not one of us tasted a single sip of it!
With Mauritius fast approaching, it was time for me to start the holiday prep.
First up was an appointment at Pimped Up Pins where Hilary coloured my hair to make sure it was in tip top condition.
This was followed with a hot stone massage at NamasDay to relax my body and mind - mission accomplished!
And last up in my pre-holiday preps, was a visit to Irresistible Beauty where the lovely Lauren created a dazzling gold glitter explosion for my finger and toe nails. She also tinted my eyebrows and eyelashes - now I was all primped, pampered and prepped - I just needed to pack!
The following day I made a flying visit to London. I had been invited by Charlotte Tilbury (the most famous makeup artist in the world) to the launch of her flagship store in Covent Garden, London.
Just 50 people had been invited to the launch, and this was one opportunity I couldn’t possibly turn down - so with my husband Adrian for company - off we set.
From the moment I arrived, I was treated like a VIP. A glass of bubbles on arrival (I like their style!) - personally guided around the store, shown all the latest Christmas gifts, and pampered with all the lotions and potions.
The shop is glamorous and even has its own fun boudoir downstairs where you can ‘play’ with the products. I was like a kid let loose in a sweet shop!
It literally is makeup heaven - and it was a fabulous evening - made even more so by the huge ‘goodie bag’ I was presented with, when all too soon, unfortunately it was time to go.
After my whistlestop visit to London, it was time to head back to Swansea that same evening and finally pack my case with less than 24 hours to go to Mauritius.
And so I’m back to the beginning - on my sunlounger, on that wonderful beach in Mauritius.
The weather has been amazing and the food and cocktails have been delicious.
I’ve been out over the reef on a glass bottom boat. And we went out on a catamaran on a snorkeling trip - or so they said - there was a little snorkeling, and a lot of rum! All that was missing on our rum-fuelled, sea-faring adventures was Long John Silver. And Jonny Depp...
The snorkeling was out of this world - and the colours of the coral and fish are just breathtaking - snorkeling the reef is tranquil and mesmerising - and I never want it to end. We have underwater cameras and take a lot of footage, so when we come home, we can relive the spectacular experience.
After the snorkeling, there was rum - lots of it! added to this was what the locals call ‘jungle juice’. I cannot tell you much more about the trip as by that point I’d had a wee bit too much of the Mauritian rum and my memory is very hazy!
And so I have one more day left before we fly back to the UK, where it’s cold and probably raining - straight into Christmas shopping for presents and putting up the Christmas tree.
But that can all wait, as I’m not ready to think about that while there’s more sun, sea, music, cocktails and food to tempt me in Mauritius...
So I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
Until next time...
Don’t be a stranger...
