May Inspiration Board

This month’s board is inspired by my quest for perfect skin (well as near to perfect as I can get). It is so important to have good skin which looks healthy and radiant; and it also helps with your makeup application - there’s no use putting beautiful paint on a dull, rough canvas!

With this in mind my wonderful friend Jenna Kelly recommended I visit The Grove Clinic. I promptly made an appointment for a consultation with the owner Jodie Grove.

Skin consultation

Skin consultationJodie asked me lots of questions about my skin.

What skin type was I? Normal most of the time.
What problems if any, did I have with my skin? I suffer from spots due to my hormones.
What were my main concerns? How to minimise those pesky little lines around my eyes!
What skin care products was I currently using? Creme de La Mer - but believe me when I say I have just about tried most skin care ranges!
Whether I was having any treatments? Facials are part of my fashion and beauty regime! I’m always having them!
What is my diet and lifestyle like? I’m very healthy. I follow Tara Hammett’s nutrition and exercise advice.
What did I want to achieve? To stop those irritating monthly spots, soften the fine lines around my eyes, make my skin firmer, brighter. Not demanding the moon and stars, but I just want to have the skin of a 20 year old! I know that’s never going to happen - but a lady can wish! In the meantime I am going to work my way through all the available treatments in my quest!

Skin Analysis

Skin Analysis

I was booked in for Skin Analysis using Visia Skin Analysis equipment which will track my skin journey and assess my skin improvements. I placed my face in a large machine which took images of my face. This powerful imaging system looks at problem areas below the surface, such as sun damage, hyper-pigmentation, broken capillaries, wrinkles and blocked pores. A skincare expert talked me through all of the images, explaining what each image meant and how I can improve my skin. She actually wrote me a prescription of what I needed!

The first recommendation was the Environ skin care range - created by the international skin care expert Dr Des Fernandes - cleanser, toner, moisturiser and eye cream; plus a nifty little instrument, The Environ Cosmetic Focus CIT. Through a simplified process of rapid and repeated patting of the skin’s surface, this instrument is able to create thousands of pain-free miniscule holes to allow improved absorption of the vitamins in the skin care products, ultimately achieving faster and better results. The vision of Environ has always been to create fine skincare products, not only to promote beautiful skin but, just as importantly, to combat the effects and appearance of ageing. Ageing might be inevitable, but Environ believes that there are ways to slow it down - and to reduce its effects. The sophisticated, scientifically proven products in the range have been designed to help prolong the youthful appearance, vigour and suppleness of the skin, and to preserve every woman’s natural, glowing beauty.
Advanced Nutrition Programme

Advanced Nutrition Programme

Next up, were the skin supplements, as beautiful skin starts from within. The process of ageing starts from within, so it’s just as important to feed and nourish the skin with the right nutrients from the inside, as to what you apply topically. Creams and lotions play a role, but they can only reach so far. The Advance Skin Range is the first step in an effective skincare routine and the scientific formulas target specific skin concerns and support overall skin health. I have been prescribed Skin Accumax which will help me achieve clear, flawless skin naturally. They contain a synergistic combination of vitamins and plant nutrients which address the underlying factors of problem skin.

The Environ Power Collagen Boost Facial was recommended, and to start with a course of six, having one every week. The facial lasts for 90 minutes, using ultrasound and electric current via the Environ DF machine which penetrates the skin, driving the serum (packed with special nutrients) deep into the lower layers of the skin. The serum itself contains a unique combination of three peptide complexes which work in synergy to repair and boost collagens, giving the skin a plumper, tighter and smoother appearance. This is followed by a cool, hydrating masque which is applied to the whole face (even covering your eyes and mouth), and connected to the Environ DF machine to deliver an electric current to further penetrate the serums.

So far my skin journey with The Grove Clinic has been amazing. My skin not only looks better it feels better - in fact it feels incredible! I have never had so many compliments about my skin. I am regularly asked how my skin is so good. The answer is I go to the right people and get their expert advice. I put this advice into practice. Put simply and bluntly - I LOOK AFTER MY SKIN! The Grove Clinic really look after you and the treatments are so relaxing - you could literally fall asleep! Their product recommendation is spot on (no pun intended!) - Jodie and her team are extremely knowledgeable in all things skin! You can read all about The Grove Clinic in Destination #FH Avenue. And don’t just take my word for it - if you want fabulous skin - call them NOW! Stop wishing… start doing…

‘Knowledge is power’

People always ask about supplementation, there are so many products it gets confusing.

Vitamin C is one of them, many things our body uses it for may surprise you.

Up your veggie intake and your Vitamin C levels will increase, no need to worry about which is the best product for you.

Reduces cortisol production: One of the large benefits of Vitamin C is it reduces the production of cortisol in your body. The stress of everyday life or weight lifting triggers a catabolic hormone known as cortisol. In terms of muscle building and fat loss, cortisol is bad for you and something you should try to avoid. Cortisol actually breaks down muscle tissue to use for energy, and tends to promote extra fat storage especially around your stomach.

Increases iron absorption: Vitamin C will increase the absorption of iron in your body. Iron is used to bind oxygen to hemoglobin in your blood and is vital if you want to perform an intense weight training or HIIT session with all your energy.

Helps with muscle soreness: It has been proven that when Vitamin C supplements are taken near a workout, your muscles won't become as sore over the next few days after the workout.

Protects from free radical damage: When you perform weight training or HIIT sessions, free radicals are created in the body. Free radicals are basically metabolic waste products that attack the cells of your body. When free radicals attack your cells like this it is called "free radical damage". Because Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant, it will fight these free radicals by either stopping their creation, or by reducing their effects.

Helps create steroid hormones: Last but not least of the benefits of Vitamin C is that it assists the creation of natural anabolic steroids in the body. The amount of muscle that you are physically able to build relies on how much of this natural steroid hormone you have in your body, so the more the better.

Did you know Broccoli has more Vitamin C per 100g than an orange? so get those fibrous little veggies stacked on your plate.

Work towards the body of your dreams
Love Tara xx
