It's All About Me
Some people wear clothes because they have to. They get up, put something on and off they go.
I love the way clothes make me feel - the confidence they give me - the way they can reflect or transform my mood.
I think with age comes confidence - when you start to feel comfortable in your own skin - when you don’t really care what other people think - when you start to dress for you.
I want to live longer by being fit and healthy and looking after myself.
I care about my appearance and want to make the most of what Mother Nature gave me.
I have a lifelong interest in fashion and beauty and I surround myself with fabulous friends who have come with me on this incredible journey.
Life’s too short to not glam up and party and I want to share my passion for fashion with you... so welcome to my world.
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away... Sorry, couldn’t help myself... Let’s start again!
A long time ago when I was in college, I worked part-time in McDonald’s to fund my fashion addiction and nights out! Despite the fast paced environment we managed to have a good laugh with lots of pranks along the way. Friendships were formed and we made some fabulous and outrageous memories! But as my family and friends are more than likely to read this, I’m keeping schtum about those!
Fast forward 25+ years and we decided to get together for an overdue catch up.
We met at Hogarths - a Victorian-style gin palace - and had a great evening. Discovering what everyone had been up to; where they worked; family and relationship updates; and generally comparing notes as as to what each one of us has been up to over the last quarter of a century!
It was great taking a trip down memory lane and one we shall be repeating. Only next time we won’t wait quite so long. And just maybe someone will actually remember to take some photos! All those smartphones yet not one selfie was taken! Truly a sign of a good night tho’ if we were so busy talking, that we weren’t distracted in the slightest by our phones! Instead, I will show you some photos from our first flush of youth, during our time at McDonald’s and when we partied at Alton Towers. The theme was loud shirts and shorts - so please forgive the fashion!
The following week I held a myshowcase.com Beauty Showcase. My good friend Julie Sullivan took over my house with nearly 50 indie brands of beauty products so my friends and I could sample them, whilst drinking lots of fizz and eating the weird and wonderful strazberries and pineberries from 5 A Day Fruit & Veg, Treboeth, Swansea.
A night of beauty, berries and bubbles with friends, all the while shopping from the comfort of my own home. What more could a beauty junkie ask for?!
The following day I visited The Towers Hotel & Spa with Jenna Kelly for a much deserved day of pampering and relaxation! We had a Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage - which was incredible - we spent the rest of the day chatting in the pool or the relaxation lounge whilst devouring the shortcake biscuits! A tough day’s work - but it just had to be done!
A busy week of interviews followed. I met up with Jill Williams the founder of CATS (Class Act Theatre School) and Jamie Evans, the owner of Fat Yankee Restaurant, Swansea. You can read all about them in Destination #FH Avenue.
Next up was a photo shoot with Wendy Thomas and the launch of ‘The Ministry Of Glamour’.
Wendy has been a huge supporter of my magazine since Day One. So when for the umpteenth time after watching my latest video she commented on how she would absolutely love to be ‘glammed up’ and have a makeover, it got me thinking... How about choosing one of the readers and give them the full emmaheaven.com glam treatment and photo shoot?
And so the idea of ‘The Ministry Of Glamour’ was born, with Wendy Thomas as our first member. You can read all about Wendy, her makeover and see the fabulous results of her emmaheaven.com experience in Stop Wishing...Start Doing. PLUS, you can find out how YOU can become the next member of ‘The Ministry Of Glamour’.
More excitement was to follow when I met up with the owner of Coast Italia - Danny Evans - to plan the magazine’s first birthday party. YES! It’s the magazine’s FIRST BIRTHDAY. What a year it has been. It has flown by in a whirlwind of fashion shoots, videos and lots of talented experts bringing the readers columns on makeup, hair, men’s fashion, how to achieve a healthy lifestyle and some naughty adult humour. And throughout it all, I have enjoyed some great days and nights out, partied, holidayed and met some seriously talented, friendly, fun people along the way.
I would like to say a HUGE thank you to my fabulous team who I am so proud to have on board. They are all truly talented and the best in their field. And most importantly, they really know how to party!
LOTS OF LOVE, KISSES AND HUGS TO:
Adrian Heaven - my husband & photographer
Rhys Warlow - my videographer and video editor
Denise Davey - my proof reader and ‘clipboard bitch’
Mike Phillips - my tech guy and computer genius
Jenna Kelly - my makeup artist and columnist
Hilary Jones - my hair stylist and columnist
Josh Thompson - my men's columnist
Tara Hammett - my personal trainer and columnist
Cross Stitch Bitch - my ‘adults only’ naughty columnist
And a big emmaheaven.com welcome to new skincare columnist Jodie Grove.
The party’s arranged. Guestlist? Check. Bubbles on ice? Check. Party outfit? What do you think?! Check! The stage is set for what promises to be a great night. I will share all the photos and secrets of the night with you in next month’s issue. That is not one to be missed!
I cannot believe that it is a year since I decided to realise my dreams by launching my own online fashion and lifestyle magazine, and that I would be hosting a fabulous launch party at Coast Italia to share those dreams with my friends and family.
With the end of the month approaching, it was time for the ‘Birthday’ shoot; and so I decided to have a fun party celebration with the team. I even managed to get Cross Stitch Bitch to attend - however she would only be filmed if we could keep her identity a secret - and so I stuck a bag over her head! It was a Chanel bag (always the fashionista eh?!) so she looked extra classy! And another word beginning with ‘C’ which she is partial to...!
My friend Paul Goatley made a fantastic birthday cake complete with marzipan figures of the whole team! Paul - it was absolutely delicious - so much so that I wasn’t fazed in the slightest on weigh-in day when I didn’t lose any weight - it was so worth every delicious last crumb. You are one talented guy!
I also bought confetti guns - which turned us into big - (even bigger?!) - kids - but hey ho - it’s my birthday!
The star of the show was a beautiful crown made for me by Olena Grinn, owner of Elviejewelerydreams in Kyiv, Ukraine. I discovered Olena on Etsy, gave her my brief and was absolutely thrilled when my gorgeous crown arrived. Definitely putting the ‘royal’ into the Royal Mail with that delivery! Thank you Olena, it is just incredible and I felt like a queen!
So with all the props in place, manicure by Irresistible Beauty, and Hilary and Jenna getting to work on hair and makeup, it was time to capture the birthday celebrations.
I hope you enjoy this Birthday issue. The celebrations will continue long into the next month when I report back from my first birthday party at Coast Italia.
I’ll sign off this issue by wishing a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to emmaheaven.com. It’s been fun, rewarding and has exceeded expectations. I look forward to watching the magazine grow and entertain you all for another year.
Until next time...
Don’t be a stranger...
