It's All About Me
Some people wear clothes because they have to. They get up, put something on and off they go.
I love the way clothes make me feel - the confidence they give me - the way they can reflect or transform my mood.
I think with age comes confidence - when you start to feel comfortable in your own skin - when you don’t really care what other people think - when you start to dress for you.
I want to live longer by being fit and healthy and looking after myself.
I care about my appearance and want to make the most of what Mother Nature gave me.
I have a lifelong interest in fashion and beauty and I surround myself with fabulous friends who have come with me on this incredible journey.
Life’s too short to not glam up and party and I want to share my passion for fashion with you... so welcome to my world.
This has been a really busy month for me, starting off with the biggest photo shoot I have ever done.
Inspired by The Rio Olympics and Brazil’s colourful carnivals - we were about to embark on a deliriously visual journey of explosive colour, mad hair, samba and the fabulously talented female dance troupe Velvet Lane.
In preparation for the shoot was the now obligatory visit to Irresistible Beauty to create my carnival nails. With Rebecca away at a friend’s wedding I had the pleasure of Tara who created a truly dazzling set of nails.
This shoot was on location where the landlady of the Clase Social Club, Swansea very kindly loaned us the use of their big hall, complete with a stage, dance floor and lots of lights. We even had our own dressing rooms (our star is rising!) and a delicious buffet from Marks & Spencer. The scene was set to let Carnival party time commence!
With Hilary and Jenna at their most creative and the Spice Girls (happy 20th anniversary ladies!) blaring through the speakers; it was exhilarating watching Velvet Lane perform the most amazing samba while Rhys filmed all the action (it must have been such a hardship filming these gorgeous beauties!)
You can see the beautiful images from this shoot in Love It! Rock It! Own It! Watch the fun and fabulous video in Lights...Camera...Action... Plus you can read all about the talented Velvet Lane in Destination #FH Avenue.
The day after the shoot my personal trainer Tara was off to Vegas for a friend’s 40 birthday. And I must admit that while the cat was away the mouse most certainly did play! I relaxed my training slightly (we had discussed this as my shoulder injury was playing up yet again!) I also had a big cheat day, where I was quite naughty with the cake and chocolate. But after I got that out of my system I was straight back on it and back on track to reach my goal.
That same week I met up with the delightful Claire Hanney, who is one of the Cappuccino Girls. She is hard at work rehearsing for Cappuccino Girls 2, but took time out to chat and tell me all about the upcoming show, which you can read about in Destination #FH Avenue.
All of a sudden it was ‘party week’ and time to see if the weeks of planning and hard work had paid off.
The venue: Coast Italia, High Street, Swansea.
The dress code: Paparazzi Ready.
Guests were treated and greeted with champagne on arrival before heading over to the ‘pap’ corner, to pose, pout, party and preen on our very own red carpet in front of my press boards. All of which was captured on film by Adrian.
Throughout the evening, guests wrote birthday messages to emmaheaven.com on bespoke cards - even the envelopes had a stamp of me on them - VERY self indulgent! These they posted in my personalised Mail Box.
I now have three things in common with HM Queen Elizabeth the Second.
- We both have a crown.
- My face is on a stamp.
- We both celebrate two birthdays in a year.
Coast Italia laid on a sumptuous Mediterranean buffet, with my friend Paul Goatley baking the most delicious cupcakes known to man.
While the guests enjoyed their fizz - the super talented magician, Mark Bowden, wowed them with his close up magic - leaving most of them open-mouthed in awe. Does he ever tire of hearing guests say “How on earth did he do that!?” Or as Denise said, anyone who can render the Dapper Dudes speechless has got to be good!.
Next up was my speech and time to thank ‘Team Heaven’ for all their hard work in making the magazine so successful. Some of the team were less than thrilled at being called up to the stage to take a bow and say a few words (no names mentioned!) Others loved it. Tara - you were born to be a star!. Alas there were a few who were unable to attend, but who still sent along a message. Rhys Warlow (videographer) was devastated to miss the free bar! (typical!). Jenna (make up artist) sent the most heartfelt and beautiful message which made me quite emotional. And Cross Stitch Bitch sent the filthiest message ever - while reading it out I had censor most of the words. She’s unbelievable! And what she sent was pretty much unprintable!
To round off the formalities, Denise lead everyone in a birthday toast, to be joined onstage by Mal Pope, to serenade me with Happy Birthday with all the guests joining in.
It was a truly fabulous evening, with wonderful people, and one I won’t forget anytime soon.
You can see the fun we had at my birthday party in the photos below, and you can read the special birthday messages from the guests and see more party photos by entering the post box.
Until next time...
Don’t be a stranger...
