It's All About Me
Some people wear clothes because they have to. They get up, put something on and off they go.
I love the way clothes make me feel - the confidence they give me - the way they can reflect or transform my mood.
I think with age comes confidence - when you start to feel comfortable in your own skin - when you don’t really care what other people think - when you start to dress for you.
I want to live longer by being fit and healthy and looking after myself.
I care about my appearance and want to make the most of what Mother Nature gave me.
I have a lifelong interest in fashion and beauty and I surround myself with fabulous friends who have come with me on this incredible journey.
Life’s too short to not glam up and party and I want to share my passion for fashion with you... so welcome to my world.
It’s been a busy month when I also completely abandoned the healthy eating and took part in what I can only describe as pure gluttony. Although if I’m to start embedding Tara’s ‘gospel’ about negative self talk in this edition, it’s probably better I rephrase that as “I cut myself some slack over what I knew would be a demanding festive period, and allowed myself some indulgences before getting back on track with renewed enthusiasm!” But more about that later...
After returning from Mauritius, my first week home included a photo shoot with my personal trainer Tara Hammett. We have a joint venture launching soon: ‘When Two Worlds Collide:The World of Fitness meets The World of Fashion.
Our thinking behind this venture is that Tara has helped you achieve the body you’ve always wanted; I’m here to show you how to make the most of your new shape, with beauty and styling tips to enhance that fabulous body, so you can rock it with confidence.
Check in with my Facebook page for more details coming soon.
The photo shoot was great fun, with some unusual poses, props and goofy expressions. In other words, a typical day with Tara!
To prepare for Christmas, I needed a visit to Irresistible Beauty and Pimped Up Pins.
At Irresistible my nails were painted a vibrant red and given a Yuletide flourish with a layer of red and gold glitter - very festive! This design features in my upcoming photo shoot.
At Pimped Up Pins my hair was coloured, pampered and straightened, leaving it sleek and in tip top condition for Christmas.
Christmas for me is about spending time with the family, indulging in food and drink while watching lots of films. Quite simply, switching off and relaxing. Oh and how could I forget? Receiving weird and wonderful gifts.
The ‘wonderful’ being Chanel No 5’s body powder from my beautiful friend Jenna Wilson, and featured in this month’s Lush List. And the ‘weird’? From who do you think? Yes Tara Hammett of course! She presented me with a diamante riding crop. Really Tara? Is it for my pain and pleasure - or yours?!
In a nutshell, I should have been nominated in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list for ‘services to Queen, country, and the food and drink industries’, for consuming roast potatoes, and copious quantities of chocolate, cake, and cocktails! After a brief interlude while watching films and Luther (which I totally fell in love with), this unrelenting cycle was repeated, until a week later I realised I had to stop. WHY?
Reason No1: I would need a ‘Food Baby On Board’ sign displayed just in case people started asking if I was pregnant!
Reason No2: I was about to embark on a 15 week programme with Tara, and this was to be hard core. With absolutely no cheating allowed! Was I scared? I was petrified! But I’m also excited to see what I can achieve. My meal plan was designed by Tara and she has doubled my exercise regime. SEND HELP!
A ‘before’ photo was taken along with my weight and measurements on Day One of the programme, which you can read all about in Stop Wishing...Start Doing... and I will be sharing the ‘after’ photo with you in the April Issue so you can see the TARAnsformation.
In between Christmas and New Year I finally got around to seeing the new Star Wars film (which was the inspiration for last month’s issue) and boy was it worth the wait. I was so excited from the minute I heard its iconic theme tune start, right up until the final credits rolled. The film was outstanding but I was totally left devastated when **** SPOILER ALERT **** Han Solo was killed. No! I bet hearts broke all over the world. I know mine did.
The following weekend I interviewed Lloyd Scoulding (MODAA). A talented young man who recently won the Ibiza clubbing DJ Newcomer award and told me all about his journey to the top. You can read all about MODAA in Destination #FH Avenue.
I ended the month as it had started, with a photo shoot. Plus a video shoot.
For the photo shoot and with the weather finally getting colder, it was time to pull out the fur capes and hats, have some fun, and get creative with Jenna, Hilary and Adrian.
We created some fabulous shots which you can see in Love It! Rock It! Own It!, where Jenna and Hilary tell you in detail how they created the makeup look and hair styles.
The video shoot took place at Pimped Up Pins hair salon in Treboeth, Swansea. There the fizz flowed and salon owner Kris Brown completed a plaited masterpiece on me.
My videographer Rhys captured all the fun of the afternoon in a fabulous film which you can watch in Lights...Camera...Action... And you can read more about this fabulous hair salon in Destination #FH Avenue.
I hope you all have a great start to the new year.
Until next time...
Don’t be a stranger...
