November Inspiration Board
This month’s board is inspired by my upcoming holiday to the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.
The key to changing your life for the better is to “Surround Yourself With Inspirational People”.
I needed - and wanted - someone to help me change my lifestyle and to be the best possible version of me.
I was stuck in a rut. Whilst dieting successfully - and precariously maintaining my weightloss - I would fall off the wagon in spectacular style. And then slowly but surely the bad habits would return and I would repeat the same mistakes over and over again!
I didn’t want a robot - somebody who was perfect and unattainable to aspire to. I wanted somebody who is normal, who can have fun and laugh at themselves - but also somebody who could be disciplined (most of the time!), who could teach me and lead by example.
Against that seemingly improbable criteria, let me introduce to you my personal trainer and lifestyle guru Tara Hammett.
What time do you set your alarm clock for?
What is your morning routine?
I get up and put the kettle on, make a hot drink and then cwtch up in a chair while it’s all nice and quiet so I can do my mindset/personal development reading for at least 10 minutes.
Name one thing you do every day without fail.
Laugh! Whether that is laughing with someone, at someone, or laughing at myself, I just make sure I have fun every day.
What do you eat on an average day?
For breakfast it could be protein pancakes with fruit or salmon and scrambled eggs.
Lunch might be homemade soups or salad and meat filled egg wraps.
For dinner I like to make a big stir fry. Either with chicken or ostrich.
What is your daily exercise diary?
I either do a gym session, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) or sprints and I also do a weekly boxing bag class.
What is the highlight of your day?
Putting a smile on people’s face, changing someone’s day and making them feel awesome.
Any low points in your day?
I hate sorting out my accounts, but luckily it’s only once a month.
Describe a really good day in the life of Tara Hammett.
I eat really good food, train my clients (I love the banter with them and I love giving it as well as taking it!) Seeing family and surrounding myself with great people.
What is the last thing you do at night before you go to bed?
Turn my computer off.
And what time do you go to bed?
9.30 - 10.00pm.
Thinking back to when you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A pop star. Which is quite funny now as my clients, friends and family constantly tell me I cannot sing!
If you could be a fictional character - who would it be and why?
Tinkerbell - so I could sprinkle pixie dust over everyone and everything.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
My parents, people/mentors in the fitness industry and my clients - I love how they dig in and overcome obstacles.
How do you like to relax and unwind?
I love sitting and chatting with friends.
And how do you like to party?
I party hard and long! I am the biggest devil when I’m out. I never want the night to end and I’m usually the last one standing! Oh and I usually cave at the buffet!
What three things are essential to your day?
My phone, people and fun.
What is your phone screensaver?
An Adidas photo shoot I did in the woods.
And the emoji you use the most?
Big smiley face.
If I emptied out your handbag, what would I be most shocked to see?
JCB pliers. I use them to snip the metal ends off my Taransformer Skipping Ropes.
Tell me something that really irritates you?
Someone who says yes but really means no. And I hate being kept waiting.
Any guilty pleasures?
Chocolate and that’s non negotiable!
What’s your biggest fear?
I’m independent and would hate to have to rely on someone. I’m terrified of spiders, clowns and the dark. I’m also scared of being on my own.
Has there been a life changing moment?
I spent a weekend at “Unleash The Power Within” with Tony Robbins (an American motivational speaker), where I walked over hot coals. Within hours of being there I made the decision to leave my full time job and go it alone.
Do you have a philosophy/quote/mantra?
You can be or do anything you want. Have the belief in yourself. Know that you can only find happiness from within and live a life you love.
What has been the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
Leaving my full time job and setting up my own business.
What have you learned from past mistakes?
Whatever life throws at you - you will handle it. Learn from it and take the positives as what will be, will be.
If you could go back in time, is there anything you would have done differently?
Left my job and gone on my own a lot sooner.
What is your biggest achievement so far?
There are many...My TV programmes with the BBC, Strictly Swansea, Panto and my DVD launches.
What are you most proud of?
My business. It’s the first thing I think of when I wake and the last thing I think about before I sleep. It brings happiness to me and to lots of others as well.
Thank you Tara. Xx
I hope this interview gave you some insight into Tara’s life and her overall philosophy towards fitness and wellbeing. Moreso, I am thrilled to announce that from December, we will have Tara to inspire us every month in her fabulous new column, which is exclusive to emmaheaven.com readers. I really hope Tara inspires you as much as she has me - it’s less about the body beautiful, but a quest for well being, and a change for life!
I toyed with many ideas for the name of Tara’s new column. I finally had that ‘eureka moment’ whilst watching the news about the hurricane tearing through Mexico, and all the ‘change’ that that hurricane brought about!
“Hurricane Tara” ~ A Force Of Nature...
To say that a person is a “Force of Nature” means that that person is a strong personality or character - like a hurricane or tsunami are forces of nature - full of energy, unstoppable, indefatigable, unforgettable. In short, a person to be reckoned with. A person who can accomplish things when others give up, or give in.
So look out readers...’Hurricane Tara’ is coming...
