Most readers of emmaheaven.com will know that I am a HUGE fan of cake! In fact I’m quite the cake connoisseur and nothing excites me more than discovering a new up and coming baker.

So you can imagine my excitement when I heard about Sian who had recently started her own cake making business. I just had to meet her and find out a lot more about this cake making genius. Here she is to tell you all about her delicious cakes.

“I started my own business in May this year after completing a one-year college course in cake decoration.

Until going on that course, I had never baked before in my entire life. However, I had a passion for art, and cake decorating was something which interested me and I felt was an area where I could unleash my artistic side.

I was never what you would call academic in school, but I always excelled with the arts. I was more practical and good with my hands than I ever was with a paper and pen.

I named my business after my daughter, as I wanted to show her that even though you might not be academically inclined, you can always create a fabulous business with your artistic talents. As a little girl I’d always wanted to make cakes and I cherish the many childhood memories I have of my grandmother constantly baking cakes.

After finishing the course in college it was time for me to perfect my baking skills. So armed with a cake recipe I kept practising until I perfected it, and this is when I roped in my family and friends to try out my wares.

The first few attempts produced mixed results, but I was determined to succeed and persevered until I felt I had found the perfect cake base. That is what I’m like with all cake-related things - I keep going until I have perfection in front of me, and only then am I happy.

I currently work from home; although I would love a bigger kitchen, this works well for me at the moment. Customers are able to order direct via my Facebook page or alternatively, can phone through their orders.

I must confess to being ever so slightly obsessed with having the latest decorating tools, gadgets and machines so that I can offer the best decorated cakes possible. I even have a machine where I can print anything onto cakes and some new exciting machines coming soon, which I cannot wait to get hold of to start creating even more new and exciting designs.

I currently offer cupcakes in many different flavours, engagement cakes, birthday cakes, christening cakes and 3D cakes. I am constantly coming up with new ideas. I even dream of cakes!

I love the design process and creating new ideas. I want people to be amazed by my cakes. I love it when they give me artistic licence to ‘go mad’ and trust me to do what I think will look fabulous.

I love learning new and different techniques - that’s where my passion lies. I love working with my hands and creating something special. Icing is so pliable and easy to work with. It can be moulded, piped and worked with in so many ways.

You can create and sculpt it into so many different textures that the possibilities are endless. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. and I have a desire to push myself as far and as hard as I possibly can.

I recently travelled to Ireland for a wedding cake-making and decorating course, which adds another string to my bow, advance my skills and take my business in another direction, offering customers even more choice, and a bigger and better service.

I strive to be different. I don’t want to be doing what everyone else is doing. I want to create unique cakes that look as amazing as they taste. I want to make works of art - edible art.

I want to be known as the go-to cake maker if you are looking for something different, something nobody has seen before, something extraordinary, and I won’t stop until I achieve that! And even then, I will keep on going, improving and learning new skills so that my business is ever-changing and growing; always offering something new, something different, pushing the boundaries of cake making and decorating.”

With my love of cake, I had to put Sian to the test with a cupcake order for my son’s birthday. I wanted to see if her cakes tasted as good as they looked and boy did she deliver! They looked incredible - almost too incredible to eat. However you know me and cake...!

I know it’s rude to talk with your mouth full, but I’m thrilled to report that they were mind-blowingly delicious. But saying that, did I ever doubt that they were going to be anything other than spectacular?
