Feed Me

Welcome to your monthly slice of #FoodHeaven: Feed Me.

Hello, hello fellow foodies, welcome back to another delicious edition of #FeedMe! The column where I - Christie Heaven - will be filling my face with the most mouthwatering treats that South Wales has to offer.

Who’s ready to embark on a new taste sensation? In the heart of Swansea, rocking out amongst the decor of British Pop Culture, is a slice of Brazilian flair serving up honest, fresh flavours. The Britpop Café is much like its name sake - a quirky hive of art, music and diversity, with an added splash of tasty wholesome food.

We were treated to a warm welcome and a recommendation to try their signature dish: the tapioca wrap. These light, crêpe-like wraps are popular in Brazil and created with one simple ingredient, just one! Can you believe that? Made from cassava root, tapioca flour is a triple treat: gluten-free, fat-free and vegan. And did I mention, delicious too?

Sweet or savoury, meat-filled or vegetarian, this international treat can be catered to your liking. I was especially excited with this issue’s assignment because I could tuck into my first ever taste of both tapioca and Brazilian cuisine. And who doesn’t love trying new things? Now here it comes...the taste verdict!

My first bite was an experience of new, unique flavours and textures with no other foodie comparisons coming to mind. The tapioca flour, sieved straight into the pan became a light, crisp wrap with a subtle natural sweetness. The beef filling was mildly spiced and indulgent, freshened with a dash of rocket and the zing of sliced tomato. The zig-zag of dressing added a surge of savouriness completing the flavoursome profile with depth and deliciousness!

If you want to experience a burst of new and interesting flavour, discover something a little bit different for lunch or are looking for a dish to compliment your fitness-filled lifestyle, the Britpop Café is the place for you.
